Design:

The Netgear R6700 looks the same if the design is concerned. Previously launched R6400 and upgraded one R7000 (big brother) are identical in design. You can go through a comparison of Netgear R6300v2 vs. R6400 vs. R6700 vs. R7000.

The status LEDs can be seen on the top of the router which indicates the router’s activity. These LEDs include Power, Internet, 2.4Ghz & 5Ghz, Guest, USB 3.0, 1 to 4 Ethernet Ports, Wifi On/Off, WPS. Moreover, it houses two physical buttons for WiFi On/Off and WPS.

On the rear panel, you see the following connections and button:

It comes with three external detachable antennas; they are bulky and makes the router much heavier. Unfortunately, It is not a wall-mountable router unlike R6300. It is made of plastic, yet feels sturdy and stable.

Hardware:

It is powered by a dual-core 1GHz processor, which Netgear uses in the Nighthawk’s series. However, Netgear Nighthawk X4 and X6 use 1.4GHz processor instead.

The R6700 has 256MB of RAM with 128Mb of flash memory. It delivers fast combined speeds up to 1750Mbps (450 Mbps + 1300Mbps).

It is a lastest AC supported router with beamforming and upstream Quality of Service (QoS). The QoS helps in optimization for gaming ( Xbox, PlayStation, or gaming consoles) and prioritizing traffic.

Key Features With Some Premium:

  • QoS (Prioritize Gaming and Video Streaming)
  • Sharing
  • ReadySHARE Vault App
  • Netgear Genie App

QoS:

Gaming and videos streaming become lag-free because of QoS feature as you can prioritize bandwidth them with Quality of Service.

It can be set up by enabling Downstream QoS and UpsTream QoS after login.

Let’s understand how these two streams work:

a) DownStream QoS:

The DownStream is used to prioritize internet traffic from the web to your network. It works while streaming videos or watching youtube, Netflix, Amazon Prime, Etc.

b). UpStream QoS:

The UpStream is used to prioritize network traffic from devices that are connected to it like Xbox and PlayStation, or any other gaming console. In other words, by enabling it, you can enjoy the lag-free gaming.

Sharing:

The USB 3.0 port for sharing media content is quite fast. The 3.0 port makes sharing much quicker if compared to USB 2.0, which you see in the previous model R6400.

Although Netgear has created a great app for this called “ReadySHARE.” It lets you share the USB drive.

Note: Make sure your USB doesn’t require individual drivers; otherwise it won’t be shareable.

Using the USB 3.0 port, you can even share your USB printer. For that, you have to connect it to the port, that’s it. You’re ready to print wirelessly.

ReadySHARE Vault Backup App:

It’s a backup software app and comes with the router. You just need to connect any USB storage drives (like Hard disk) to the USB port for automatic backup.

Netgear Genie App:

The Netgear Genie app is very handy; it allows you to monitor and control your network using any windows or Mac and smartphones.

Let’s see at what this app lets you do:

  • We can share and stream videos and music.
  • Using an Ipad or iPhone, we can make a printer AirPrint Compatible.
  • It has a MyMedia option which lets us find media in our network.
  • Parental controls feature can be set up with this app.
  • Scanning the QR code of the WiFI lets us connect our devices to the network.
