NETGEAR Nighthawk X6 AC3200 Tri-Band WiFi Router Full Review
After Netgear’s X10, It’s time to introduce, one of the best tri-band routers in the market, x6 R8000 WiFi Router. The x6 ac3200 is worth the money, or should you buy this?
The R8000 is a tri-band router and compatible with Amazon Echo or Alexa ( We can control our home network using voice commands ). It is an ‘AC‘ standard router with combined maximum WiFi speeds of up to 3.2gbps (600 using 2.4Ghz band + 1300 using 5GHz + 1300 using 5GHz).
The x6 comes with high security and some other advanced features. Beamforming+ and simultaneous tri-band ensure reliable WiFi and secure connectivity.
Pros, Cons & Verdict: The Netgear x6 AC3200
- All three bands work great simultaneously, and performance is top of the line.
- Setup and installation are quite easy as it supports the Genie app. (available for both iPhone and Android users).
- Voice commands using the Amazon Echo/Alexa give an extra boost to the router.
- Free ReaySHARE app allows automatic backup using its USB port.
- Range and Coverage are excellent.
I don’t like:
- It is an expensive router.
- Unlike x10, It looks a bit bigger.
- It doesn’t have an e-SATA port.
The overall performance of this router is excellent as it is equipped with a 1Ghz dual-core processor. In results, It delivers faster USB access, WiFi speed, Wired speeds, and WAN Speeds.
What’s inside the box: It contains the following:
- The X6 (R8000) AC3200 tri-band router.
- Gigabit Ethernet Cable
- Power adapter
- User manuals and Warranty card.
On the front side of the router, You can see it has six fold-out antennas. The Topside of the router has some Status LEDs for indicating its activities.
If we could count them, they are 13 in total ( four Gigabit Ethernet LEDs, two USB 3.0 & 2.0 LEDs, 1x Power LED, 1x Internet LED, 1x 2.4GHz & 2x5Ghz, 1x WiFi On/Off LED, 1x WPS LED).
The router comes with six external foldable antennas. It is recommended us to position the antennas vertically (see the following image) for the best performance of the WiFi.
On the back side of the router, the rear panel looks quite busy as it has 1x 2.0 USB port, LED On/Off button, four Gigabit Ethernet LAN ports (black), Gigabit WAN port (the yellow one), 1x 3.0 USB port, Reset button, DC power jack, and power button ( on the right side ).
1. Easy Sharing:
The ReadySHARE is a USB feature, which allows you to share and access a USB device. You can access the USB device using MAC and Windows computer.
It also allows you to share a USB printer wirelessly using the ReadySHARE printer utility feature. Read more about the ReadySHARE feature here.
2. ReadySHARE Vault:
I found the ReadySHARE feature very useful. It is free backup software. You can connect a USB ( HDD ) hard disk, or NAS to the USB port for the automatic backup.
However, it doesn’t support MAC operating system. You can only use the windows computer in order to use this feature. It supports from Windows XP SP3 to Windows 10 ( all the operating system of Windows )
3. Dynamic QoS:
The Dynamic Quality of Service feature allows traffic prioritization. It can limit Internet bandwidth so that you can use multiple devices at the same time. I often use this feature while playing HD games or streaming videos.
Some Additional Features:
Using iTunes Server, we can simply play music from a USB device (If you have the Apple Remote app then you can play music on any AirPlay supported devices). It also has a secure VPN service feature.
The router is equipped with a 1GHz dual-core processor. You get the fastest combined speeds of up to 3.2Gbpz. The tri-band ensures the fastest WiFi and lets you connect multiple devices at the same time.
It has six high-performance external antennas with powerful amplifiers for better range and coverage. Advanced technology beamforming+ ensures stronger connections between devices. Apps like Netgear genie and ReadySHARE are for network management and automatic scheduled backup.

Competitor: R7000, X4s (R7800), X6 (R7800), X8 (R8500), and X10 (R9000) are an entire family of Nighthawk Series.
Although these routers look similar and come from the same family. But features, prices, and performance of the router are entirely different. Therefore, I had to compare them with each other. Overall Netgear’s Nighthawk x6 is an excellent solution for users who are planning to buy a router for multiple devices. I would recommend X6 over X10. Even though X10 is an ‘AD’ standard router, but we need ‘AD’ standard supported devices too, which is rare at least in 2021.
So you can buy x6, it is the best tri-band router in the market these days at a great price. It can easily handle multiple devices, provided that you have a fast internet connection with ‘AC’ standard supported devices.
