How To Connect Your Xbox One To A Hotel’s Internet Connection
Most Xbox One gamers consider playing on their consoles as equivalent to “their version of yoga” and as an avid gamer myself, I can attest to that logic.
So, if you always bring your Xbox One wherever you go, whether on business trips or holidays, figuring out how to connect your console to a hotel’s internet connection can be extremely useful.
Once connected, playing your favorite game with your friends back home awaits you during your downtime.
My Xbox One Won’t Connect To The Hotel’s Wi-Fi
Connecting your Xbox One to a hotel’s internet connection can work with just one try, but other times it will need a lot of patience to get the connection going.
If you manage to connect it on the first try, you can enjoy playing your favorite games in your hotel, but if not, you have to keep trying. The most common errors that pop up are; a failure to get your Xbox One’s IP address and a failure to connect to the local DHCP server.
These two problems occur because most hotels’ internet connections are optimized for phones and laptops and not so much for gaming consoles.
Luckily, you can bypass these two problems easily by manually entering the MAC address of a device that can log in.
Connecting Your Xbox To A Hotel’s Internet Connection
There are two ways you can connect your Xbox One to a hotel’s internet connection. You can either go with a wired connection through an Ethernet cable or opt for a wireless connection through Wi-Fi.

- Connect one end of your Ethernet cable to the hotel’s LAN port.
- Connect the other end to your Xbox One. The LAN port on the Xbox is located at the back next to the power inlet port.
- Turn on your Xbox One and wait for it to detect the hotel’s internet connection automatically
- Wireless Connection: Connecting Your Xbox One to a Hotel’s Wi-Fi Most hotels have Wi-Fi, so all you need to do is follow the following steps;
- Turn on your Xbox One.
- Navigate to the “Settings” and select “Network.”
- Look for the hotel’s wireless connection and choose it.
- Enter the password and wait for the console to connect automatically.
- If there are no errors, the Xbox One console will indicate that that the connection was successful.
If the hotel you are staying in has a hotspot portal/login page, request for the credentials from the reception area, otherwise, you might be locked out of the internet connection.

- Look for the “Wi-Fi MAC Address” and note it down.
- Connect to the internet using the Android’s device Wi-Fi Address by accepting the terms through the web browser that you will automatically be redirected to.
- Disconnect the mimic device from Wi-Fi.
On Windows 10: follow these steps.
- Navigate to the “Control Panel” in the taskbar.
- Go to “Network and Sharing Center”>“Change Adapter Settings.”
- Right-click on the hotel’s Wi-Fi network and select Status >Details
- Note down the “Physical Address” as it is your MAC Address.
- Disconnect laptop from the hotel’s Wi-Fi network
On Xbox One: follow these steps.
-
- Go to “Settings”>“Network.”
- Note down the “MAC Address” you copied from your mimic device (iPhone, laptop, Android device, etc.) and enter it into your Xbox console.
Once the alternative MAC Address is entered, your Xbox should now connect to the internet successfully. At this point, you should be connected to Xbox Live and can play all your favorite games online.
I try entering the MAC address but it makes me restart my console and then doesn’t work
