D-Link DIR-867 AC1750 Router Full Review 2021
The DIR-867 is a dual-band router which offers High and the latest technologies like MU-MIMO & Beamforming under 100 dollars. It ensures a faster WiFI and reliable performance
The D-link Dir-867 is a powerful dual-band router. The router is designed to support 3×3 data streams with MU-MIMO technology. It offers high-bandwidth for multiple devices and better throughput. Simultaneous Dual-band delivers faster WiFi combined speeds up to 1750Mbps using both bands.
- A Dual-core Processor
- SmartBeam With MU-MIMO Supported
- 3×3 Data Streams
- Four High-power external antennas
Pros and Cons of D-Link DIR-867:
- We get consistent speeds on both bands whether it is 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz.
- It is a VPN supportable router.
- It supports IPv6 and connection types (SLAAC/ DHCPv6, 6rd, IPv6 PPPoE, Static IPv60).
- It uses a single SSID, No need to connect it manually as it determines both bands automatically and connect.
- User-friendly and Easy Setup using both Web-based and WiFi App.
I don’t like:
- No USB port.
Note: If you wish one, then you should consider its upgraded model EXO AC2600.
It has all the features that we expect from an ideal budget-friendly router. However, it doesn’t include the USB port which is a drawback of this router. Other than that, it is a blazing fast WiFi router with great coverage and range as it supports the latest technologies.
Design & Hardware Overview:
If we start from the front side of the router, you can see the wedge-shaped cabinet with a black matte finish. It has four adjustable external antennas. However, they are not detachable.
The router’s dimension is 1.5 x 9.0 x 8.0 inches (HWD). On the top, it has four LED indicators ( Power, Internet, 2.4Ghz, 5GHz) for letting you its activity and status. They all will be solid green after boot up. While booting up, they will be solid orange.
On the back side, you will see that the rear panel is quite busy. However, the USB port is missing. But, it holds a (from right to left) power switch, a power jack, WiFi Button, WPS, Reset ( a paperclip is required in order to use it), a WAN port (a yellow one), and 4x Fast Gigabit Ethernet ports for connecting wired devices like computer, NAS devices, gaming consoles, switches, Etc.
Key Features and Technologies:
- Virtual Server
- Quick VPN
- Web Filtering
- MU-MIMO and Beamforming
The Quality of Service is for prioritizing the bandwidth of your connected devices so that you can priortize devices as per internet uses. It is useful when so many people use the internet at the same time. So QoS allows you to prioritize a specific person over others on the network. By default, the router provides the same bandwidth to all connected devices.
The virtual server is used for redirection to a private LAN and Internal LAN IP address after specifying a single public port. In order to configure it, you have to click Virtual server, which you can find in the Port Forwarding page.
The D-link DIR-867 features D-link’s QuicK VPN technology. Using (VPN) virtual private network, you can create a connection between devices across the internet. It prevents direct connection to untrusted WiFi or places like Coffee shops, hotels, and WiFI hotspots. In other words, using the Quick VPN, you will be able to connect securely to any harmful or untrusted WiFI hotspot through your home internet connection.
It has website filter features for blocking access to unauthorized or certain harmful websites. It also allows you to create a list of sites that you want to block. However, it lets you add only a maximum of fifteen websites. You can find this option in the features menu on the top of the page.
MU-MIMO & Beamforming:
The DIR-867 is the only router which offers these two technologies under 100 bucks. The MU-MIMO technology with 3×3 MIMO antenna configuration ensures better data rates, higher reliability, and more coverage. Thus it allows multiple connections without any interference and interruption. Whereas advanced beamforming technology ensures blazing-fast WiFI to connected devices on the network.
Other features like smart connect, wireless networking, IPv6 Support, advanced firewall, secure concurrent sessions, and user-friendly setup wizard are quite handy.
Tips For More Secure And Faster WiFI In Your Home
You should keep the following things in mind while installing your network.
It is very important to centralize your router for the best performance. Make sure you place your router as high as possible. If you face any issues with range, then you should add an extender or repeater to the network.
As you know the 2.4Ghz frequency is quite crowded, meaning most of the devices like cordless telephones, televisions, microwaves also use the same frequency band. In the result, they reduce the overall performance of the router. To eliminate the interference, make sure you place those home appliances far away from the router.
You need to secure your network. To do so, make sure you choose WPA, WPA2, or WEP security encryption. It stops Intruders or neighbors to connect your network.
- Dimensions: 285x196x148mm (L x W x H)
- Standards: IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n/ac
- Power: Input 240v AC ~ 50/60 Hz, Output 12 DC ~ 1.5 A
- Ports: 4x Gigabit Ethernet LAN ports and 1x WAN port
The DIR-867 AC1750 can deliver reliable and powerful performance at this price range. I consider it the best budget-friendly router. It is a feature-packed router and equipped with a dual-band processor for faster WiFi speeds, online gaming, and HD streaming. Using QoS, you can enjoy fast bandwidth on your desired device. However, the main drawback of this router is missing USB ports. Which is very important for most people as sometimes we need to connect wireless printer or storage devices to it.
