ARRIS SURFboard AC1750 SVG2482AC | Review 2021

The term router and modem are often interchangeably used since they provide PCs with an internet connection, but the two are not one and the same thing.

A modem’s major function is to relay internet signals from the service provider to yARRIS SURFboard AC1750 SVG2482ACour computer, usually through a router.

You can plug your modem into an internet service provider line via satellite, broadband, fiber or telephone wire.

A router, on the other hand, cannot be directly connected to the internet. A modem is needed to act as a bridge between the router and the internet. In other words, a router is connected at two ends – one to your private LAN and another to the internet.

It then shares the internet signal sent by the modem to multiple devices utilizing the same IP address.

Nowadays, routers and modems are available as a single combined unit, and ARRIS SURFboard AC1750 SVG2482AC as a good example of that.

Why You should Buy Your Own Cable Modem Router

There are a number of advantages associated with buying a modem-router combo such as the ARRIS SURFboard AC1750 SVG2482AC, as opposed to buying separate units. They include:

  • Save money: Buying separate units will cost you more compared to buying one unit that has both functions. This means that buying a modem-router combo will save you money. Furthermore, a single unit lessens the total number of cables you’ll need to use in order to set up your network and connect to the internet. With a combo, you don’t need the Ethernet cable. Additionally, a single unit derives its power from a single AC adapter, thus does away with a power cable and frees an outlet.
  • Updated technology: Netgear Nighthawk offers a DOCSIS 3.0 internet connection. This means that it offers 8 times better download speed than DOCSIS 2.0. It is, therefore, ideal for faster download, HD streaming, and gaming.
  • Easy Setup: While having a separate router and modem requires you to setup and configure two different units, having a combo means that you will only have to setup and configure just one unit. This accelerates the connection process, and also ensures that your modem and router do not have any compatibility issues.

  1. The Arris Surfboard modem is a nightmare. It is very fickle, constantly dropping WiFi connectivity to my iPad and printer, which are used frequently every day. Connectivity for other devices (TVs, computers) drop out occasionally, but those are rare events. Where Arris really tanks is maintaining WiFi connection for my iPad and printer – very poor performance. Connection drops off multiple times throughout the day with these two devices, forcing lengthy investments of time and effort, reloads, and resets to get the iPad and printer back online. Believing in the Arris hype, we even replaced our printer to no avail. The iPad has not lost connectivity in the past three months using it from another location. This has made it abundantly clear where the fault lies. Purchasing an Arris Surfboard was a very bad investment. Read the negative reviews and believe them. They are dead-on correct about the connectivity problems with the Arris Surfboard. Don’t even think about the money when replacing it with a better modem. Just get the Arris out of your life and free yourself from an almost constant barrage of stressful issues. NOT WORTH THE ENDLESS AGGRAVATION.

  2. I have the same model which I purchased 2 years ago. It has been very reliable. I have never seen the issues that you describe. It sounds like you are connecting directly to the Arris. My setup includes Google range extenders in which one is connected to the Arris, and the others are located around the house. So what I have is a grid network. Perhaps you should try this approach.

  3. I have this Arris unit since last May and have had no problems with it. It also saves me $168 a year rent from Comcast. I paid only $115 for the modem/router/phone, which is accepted by Comcast/xFinity, and from the savings I make a decent living.
